Welcome to Year 4
Spring Term 2022
Mrs Wong and Mrs Williams ~ Class teachers
Mrs Nankivell ~ Teaching Assistant
Our topic this half term is:
What does Ancient mean?
This is a history based topic where we will be looking at the Vikings in Spring Term 3 and Ancient China in Spring Term 4.
I will attach overview of the term for your information and a master timetable in January. Please bear in mind that this is only a guide and may alter as the term progresses.
Our PE lessons this half term will be linked to our PSHE where we are learning about the importance of exercise in order to keep healthy. Through various exercises and challenges, we will explore how the body is effected when we exercise and by the food and drinks we consume. We will also be working of agility and coordination and building on stamina to beat our personal bests. PE will continue to be on Tuesday afternoons, please make sure you child wears their PE kit in to school on those days.
The children will have weekly spellings, along with sentences for dictation, to practise at home.
Each day in Handwriting sessions we will be focusing on practising the spelling patterns and writing our spellings correctly, using joined handwriting.
The PTFA have again purchased a great times table package for the school called 'TT Rockstars'. There are lots of different areas the children could go into including the ‘Garage’ or ‘Studio’. The Garage is a training
mode where they work through the tables (recommended) and the Studio is random questions up to the 12x12 times table. Ultimately, we hope this makes learning the times tables fun while they become more fluent and knowledgeable in their times table recall. They can also earn ‘coins’ to update their avatar rock star!
Homework will continue to be sent home each Friday and should be returned to school by the following Wednesday. Spelling Tests this term will be on Fridays.
All of the children are on the Renaissance Reader book scheme and they should be bringing home a number banded book every day. We already have lots of children who are keen to complete their quizzes. I have reminded the children that the quiz tests their understanding of the book and as we are looking for at least 80%+ for a pass rate on their quiz, we always advise to read the book through at least twice before attempting the quiz. Children should be taking quizzes regularly (ideally once every week) and they should know the results of their quiz. Remember you can register with the website and receive text/email alerts with your child's test results.
Please make sure you are continuing to read regularly with your child ~ they should be bringing their books home EVERY day!!
Please ensure that your child has a water bottle in school every day and that they bring it home to be washed out and refilled.
