Meet the Teacher Presentation

Welcome to Year 4

Spring Term 2021

Class Teacher : Mr Mitchell

Our Spring term topic is:

Who is Mrs Gren?

This is a science based topic where we will be looking at plants, living things and their habitat and animals including humans!

We will be explore the different parts of flowering plants, investigate how water is transported within plants and explore the requirements of plants for life and growth and if it varies from plant to plant and much more! We will then move onto living things and see if we can group living things in a variety of different ways and explore and use classification keys to help group and identify a variety of living things in their local environment. Following on from that we will look at animals including humans where we will look at nutrition and identify that humans and some other animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement.

PE

Our PE lessons this half term will be on Wednesday and Thursday, please make sure you wear PE kit in to school on these days.

SPELLING

The children will have weekly spellings along with sentences for dictation to practise at home.

Each day in Handwriting sessions we will be focusing on practising the spelling patterns and writing our spellings correctly, using joined handwriting.

TT Rockstars

The PTFA have again purchased a great times table package for the school called 'TT Rockstars'. There are lots of different areas the children could go into including the ‘Garage’ or ‘Studio’. The Garage is a training mode where they work through the tables (recommended) and the Studio is random questions up to the 12x12 times table. Ultimately, we hope this makes learning the times tables fun while they become more fluent and knowledgeable in their times table recall. They can also earn ‘coins’ to update their avatar rock star!

Please keep 'firing' multiplication facts at your child so they have the answers at their finger tips!!

HOME LEARNING

Homework will continue to be sent home each Friday and should be returned to school by the following Wednesday. Spelling Tests this term will be on Friday.

We are all looking forward to another fun, jam packed term with lots and lots of learning going on!

If you have any worries, concerns or questions, please feel free to pop in and see me after school or contact me through class Dojo.

Thank You

Mr Mitchell

Year Four Reminders

RENAISSANCE READING

All of the children have moved onto the Renaissance Reader book scheme and they should be bringing home a number banded book every day. We already have lots of children who are keen to complete their quizzes. I have reminded the children that the quiz tests their understanding of the book and as we are looking for at least 80%+ for a pass rate on their quiz, we always advise to read the book through at least twice before attempting the quiz. Children should be taking quizzes regularly (ideally once every week) and they should know the results of their quiz.  Remember you can register with the website and receive text/email alerts with your child's test results.

Please make sure you are continuing to read regularly with your child ~ they should be bringing their books home EVERY day!!

PE

PE is timetabled for Wednesday/Thursday afternoons,  but make sure your child has their indoor AND outdoor PE kit in school at all times.

Water Bottles

Please ensure that your child has a clear water bottle, with a sports type cap, in school every day and that they bring it home to be washed out and refilled!

School Uniform

Please support us in sending your child to school in appropriate uniform and footwear.  All clothes should be clearly labelled to reduce incidents of lost property.

Equipment

Whilst children are provided with all the stationary they require, I understand that many parents wish to support their children by providing extra items.  If this is the case, can you please ensure such items are labelled clearly and encourage your child not to exchange or give away items to others.

Communication

All school events and activities are noted on the school newsletter: The Steady Eddy.
