Spring Term

What does it take to be a famous inventor or explorer?

Class Teacher- Miss Walkey

Teaching Assistant- Ms Moses

In Maths we are going to start learning how to multiply and divide by 2, 3, 5 and 10. We may challenge ourselves by looking at the 4 and 6 x tables too! At the end of term, we will be learning about statistics by making graphs and charts, and by interpreting what they represent.

In English we will continue to practice our phonics sounds daily and will start looking at how we use alternative sounds in spelling. We will start the year with some poetry based on the poem 'Snow in the Garden' by Shirley Hughes. After, we will be developing our writing skills further with a writing sequence based on the book 'The Train Ride' by June Crebbin. We will then be writing an adventure story based on the book 'The Naughty Bus' by Jan Oke.

For this term's topic we are learning modern day toys and how and why they have changed since the 1960's. We would love for you to share photos of any old toys that you may have from parents and grandparents. After half term, we will be learning about explorers from our local area through time.

In Science we will be acting like real scientists; developing our scientific enquiry skills by asking questions, performing simple tests as well as observing and recording to help us answer the questions. These will be based around our topic of Materials.

In Art we are exploring the work of Margarete Steiff the famous seamstress who made teddies. We will start with observational drawings of bears before designing and making our own teddy bear. Later in the term, we will also be looking at how to make a moving toy car using axles and wheels.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me on Class Dojo and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

PE is on Wednesday. Please wear PE kit to school ready for the afternoon.

Homework will be given out on a Friday and will be collected on a Wednesday.

Thank you
