Children in Year 1 and Year 2 have weekly Spanish lessons with Miss Weekes.
As well as taking part in activities that link with the term's topic, children enjoy a range of language learning activities that gradually increase their skill in Spanish.
In Key Stage One there is a focus on speaking and listening, but children will have some exposure to the written word.
Language lessons are compiled of lots of games and stories, songs and finger rhymes. The children enjoy a resource called 'Take 10 en Espanol' which has short video clips of children from a Devon school dancing to a traditional Spanish song. See if they can show you 'Head, shoulders, knees and toes' or 'Juan pequeno baila'.
In KS2 at St Edward's, children have weekly French lessons with Miss Weekes.
Children learn about French Culture as well as having a chance to practise and develop their linguistic skills.
French lessons consist of a range of games and stories, French finger rhymes and songs. Children have plenty of conversational practice, especially in lower KS2 (years 3 and 4) but will also develop their reading and writing skills in the target language.
In our French lessons we also look more closely at our link with Algesiras in Brest, Brittany.
