This year for our Global WAC we focussed on the celebration of Chinese New Year.
Throughout the day we experienced a wide range of activities that reflected the Chinese culture and some activities that Chinese children would do, in the build up to their New Year. These included; Chinese Calligraphy, Tai Chi, paper cutting skills, making opera masks, listening and role playing the 'zodiac race' story, food tasting, research on Chinese New year traditions and making paper lanterns and red envelopes.
The day was thoroughly successful and enjoyable for all who took part. We have developed an insight into Chinese culture and the similarities and differences between our New Year celebrations.
A huge thank you to the staff for their efforts and to the Chinese teachers Xiamei and Yonghua who volunteered their time to us. Many thanks to Mr Harry Mo for giving us the lions for the lion dances for the day, Mrs E'iling Wong for providing us with the traditional Chinese costumes and to K.W. Brothers for donating some Chinese foods.
