Enjoying & Achieving Outdoors
Our school is working with a local Beacon school to develop and further enhance the outdoor provision for our children.
On a rota basis, children undertake specific outdoor learning sessions on a Thursday afternoon, led by Miss Mathews and supported by the Class teacher. Class teachers may also deliver activities outdoors linked to the year group topic on an ad-hoc basis across the term.
Parents are informed, by text message, when their child will need wellies and outdoor kit in school. (We do have spares incase someone forgets!)
Our vision is to enable all our pupils to experience the vast amount of learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Quality learning experiences in ‘real’ situations have the capacity to raise achievement across a range of subjects and to develop better personal and social skills.
When these experiences are well planned, safely managed and personalised to meet the needs of every child they can contribute significantly to the five outcomes of the Every Child Matters Agenda. We want the children in our care to be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and to develop aspirations that will lead to achieving future economic wellbeing.
We aim to deliver high quality individual outdoor activities such as building dens, orienteering and growing our own vegetables but also understand that it is necessary to integrate outdoor learning within our curriculum and embed it within our daily teaching.
