About the school
St Edward’s is a Voluntary Controlled Community School which serves a large urban estate and is part of the Eggbuckland Academic Council.
The school was founded in 1846 and moved to its present site in 1971. It is a single storey building with an infant and junior block. The school benefits from a large playing field, newly built library and community room. There is an infant play area, a junior playarea and a quiet playground space.
Our most recent inspection by OFSTED was January 2009 when St Edward's was deemed to be a 'GOOD' school offering good value for money. The OFSTED report states "This is a good school with many strengths and most parents and carers are very happy with the quality of care and education that it provides. One expressed the views of many with the comment, 'The school has a committed team offering an excellent standard of pastoral care.' Inspectors agree with this view".
Our OFSTED report can be read at www.ofsted.gov.uk.
The Diocese of Exeter also carried out their inspection in January 2009 and the school was deemed as 'OUTSTANDING'. The Church Inspection Report states "The Christian distinctiveness of St Edwards is outstanding because of the powerful impact the school makes on children and families. The leadership of the school is effective because it works in successful partnership with the local church to bring Christian understanding and values into everyday life. Children and parents articulate with confidence and pride of the Christian distinctiveness of the school.".
There are currently 212 children on roll and seven classes. We have a PAN of 30 in KS1 and 34 in KS2. Aims of our school (2009-12)
Our school encourages children to be successful, reflective learners. We nurture confident individuals and responsible citizens.
We aim to raise standards by:
- ensuring that all teaching is consistently as good as the best.
- enhancing learning opportunities through the use of visits, visitors and the wider community.
- delivering a purposeful, enjoyable and creative curriculum which stimulates children, encouraging learning and risk taking.
We will do this in an environment which reflects the Christian ethos of our school and allows children to develop their spirituality.
